In light of its many practical benefits, I sometime describe Buddhism as a form of life management. In fact, the teaching of the Buddha is for everyone, not just Buddhists. On the purely doctrinal level, some of the teachings are difficult even for Buddhists to accept. So if you want to get on well with your family, start by making a genuine effort to listen and understand others. I’m not saying that you have to have perfect compassion for all sentient beings, but rather that you need to strive to listen to others and understand their situation, as hard as this may be to do at times.
